Pentagon lifts coffin media ban

News organizations had been banned since the 1991 Gulf War from taking photos like this one, obtained by thememoryhole.org and originally taken by the Pentagon. The undated photo shows caskets of soldiers killed in Iraq being offloaded at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday said he was lifting the ban against media photos of soldiers’ coffins returning to the U.S. and will instead leave the decision up to families.

GM posts $9.6 billion quarterly loss

Vick OK’d for home confinement, official says

Michael Vick is serving a 23-month sentence at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., for a dogfighting conspiracy. Imprisoned NFL star Michael Vick will be allowed to finish his sentence under home confinement because there is no room at a halfway house for him, a government official told The Associated Press Thursday.
